Overview
Epson TM-m30 thermal printers can be used as both Prep Printers to receive Prep Tickets and Terminal Printers for printing Guest Receipts. In this article, we will cover how to change the network configuration of these flexible printers. Please budget twenty (20) to thirty (30) minutes to complete the process from start to finish.

Required Materials

An iPad, iPhone or Android with the Epson TM Utility App installed, minimum version 3.23.1. If you are not using at least version 3.23.1 of the Epson TM Utility App please update the App before beginning.

A pen or paper clip

An Epson TM-m30 printer that has been factory reset

An IP address available for use by the printer
NOTE: Every device on a network must have a unique IP address. When in doubt, please contact your Network Management Team with any questions.
- Identify the model of the printer, either TM-m30 or TM-m30ii. The model can be found on the label on the back of the printer.

Basic Process

Factory reset the Epson TM-m30 printer

Use the Epson TM Utility app to push a network configuration from an iPad to the printer. Before your begin confirm you are using version 3.23.1 of the Epson TM Utility App by:

Open the Epson TM Utility App and select the i button on the right side of the screen

Confirm you are using version 3.23.1 or higher. If you are not, please update the app before proceeding.

Factory Reset the Epson TM-m30 printer
It’s always best to start from a clean slate. Reset the printer to factory defaults to wipe any existing configurations.

Turn the printer OFF

Turn the printer upside down
- Remove the protective panel
|

Locate the Network Status Button on the rear underside of the printer. It is located in a small depression next to the cash drawer port.

WiFi

|

Turn the printer right side up

Use the tip of a pen or a paperclip to depress and hold the Network Status Button
-
Turn the printer ON while continuing to hold the Network Status Button

The printer will make a mechanical noise and print an Initialization Complete receipt
|
|

Wait for a second receipt to print after a few seconds with info for SimpleAP
|

Configure the Printer Using the Epson TM Utility App
- Open the iPadOS Settings app
|
 |
- Select Wi-Fi
|
 |
- Select EPSON_Printer from Other Networks
|
 |
- Enter the Password "12345678" and Select Join
NOTE: If receiving an Incorrect Password error, return to the Factory Reset instructions above, then begin again at Step 1 NOTE: Some Printers may require the Printer Serial Number as the password

- Wait for a blue checkmark to appear beside the EPSON_Printer network name
|
 |
- Download and Open the Epson TM Utility app
|
 |
- Select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard
|
 |
- Select the correct printer model, either TM-m30 or TM-m30ii.
- Select Next
|
 |
- If prompted to Allow "TM Utility" to use your Location?, select Allow While Using App
|
 |
- Select Printed
NOTE: If the SimpleAP Start slip did not print, return to the Factory Reset instructions above, then begin again at Step 1
or
Click Not Printed and follow the steps for Simple AP Start Slip Did Not Print

- Wait for the iPad to connect to the Printer and select Join
|
 |
- The iPad is now connecting to the "EPSON-Printer" WiFi Network.
|
 |
- Enter the Network Name (SSID)
- Select Next
|
 |
- Select WPA2-PSK(TKIP/AES) as the security type
- Select Next
|
 |
- Enter the Network Password
- Select Next
|
 |
- Toggle OFF Auto (DHCP)
|
 |
- Enter the IP address
- Enter the Subnet Mask
- Enter the Default Gateway
- Select Next
|

- Select Set to Printer after reviewing the information for accuracy
|
 |
- Go back to Apple Settings and connect to the WiFi network you have just set to the printer.
- After you've connected to the WiFi, go back to the Utility App.
- Select Next.

- The printer will now restart.
|
 |
- Select Finish
|

SimpleAP Start Slip Did Not Print:
If the SimpleAP Start Slip did not print, please follow the steps below. You will use the Epson Utility App and the printer's Feed button to print the SimpleAP Start Slip.

If the Simple AP Start Slip did not print, select Not Printed.

Turn the printer OFF.
Press and hold down the Feed button and turn the printer ON (Do not release the Feed button until printing starts.)
Select Printed.

Press and hold down the Feed button for 1 second or longer until this receipt has printed.
Select Printed.
|

Check the number to the left of "Interface Setup" on the print results. The number in the example above is 5.
Press the Feed button the number of times displayed (in this example, 5 times).
Press again and hold down the Feed button. Do not release until printing starts.

Check the number to the left of "Wi-Fi and Ethernet Setup"
Press the Feed button the number of times displayed (in this example, 2 times).
Press again and hold down the Feed button. Do not release the Feed button until printing starts.

Press again and hold the Feed button to print the SimpleAP Start Slip. Do not release the Feed button until printing starts.
Select Printed.

Now the Utility App will connect to the Printer's WiFi.
Select Join
Continue to Step 12 above.

Tips and Tricks:
- Be patient and take your time!
- Watch for typos! IP addresses are an exact science!
- IMPORTANT! All devices on the same network must have IP addresses within the same IP scheme, and every device must have a unique address. For example, an IP scheme of 172.16.10.___ may be able to accommodate devices with addresses from 172.16.10.2 to 172.16.10.254, but if two devices have the same address, neither device will work.
- Every network is different. When in doubt, always contact your Network Management Team.
